English version:
I have shared with you an insight into some of my favourite music and my most treasured books - now it’s time to highlight a few screen adaptations that have made a big impression on me. I admit that I rarely watch movies, but not because I don’t like the cinema! It is simply rare that a film interests me sufficiently to keep my interest until the very end. I love stories that make such an impression on me that they become imprinted on my memory, that make me reflect on my life, that evoke an array of emotions, and that stir up all of the senses. Films such as these, which create such strong feelings, I am happy to watch again and again, enjoying every scene to the end. Films whose soundtracks are a pleasure to listen to no matter how many times they are heard. Among my favourites are romantic movies and love stories, particularly ones set in days gone by. So below you’ll find six movies which, for me, belong in everyone’s collection. Each one includes a brief description explaining why I love the film :) Make sure you share your film favourites with me!

Po Malenę sięgnęłam tuż po tym, gdy ujrzałam ją w utworze Savages - You're My Chocolate. Monica Bellucci, będąca ikoną kobiecości, zahipnotyzowała mnie sobą do granic możliwości...

I discovered the film Malena after I saw an extract featured in the music video of You’re My Chocolate by the Savages. Monica Bellucci, an icon of femininity, totally hypnotised me. Throughout the movie, I simply couldn’t take my eyes off her, constantly admiring her graceful movements, the clothes which emphasised her beautiful figure, and the incredible charm that emanated from her very being. And I really love such style! Malena is not the shallow tale of a beautiful woman, it is high-quality Italian cinema which exposes the cruel side of human nature.

I saw Atomement for the first time while still in high school, after discovering the work of author Ian McEwan. In my opinion, this is one of those rare film adaptations that is in no way inferior to the original literary version. The dramatic tale of two young people coming together from completely different worlds evokes stirring emotions in me every time. The delightful costumes, the appropriate music, the realistic scenery and the masterful shots - such as the five-minute scene from Dunkirk - are simply breathtaking.

- - -
The story of La Migliore Offerta, which is full of suspense until the very end, will surely appeal to art lovers. A purely professional relationship between a mysterious young woman and a revered art expert develops with such intensity that the normally calm and restrained art guru slowly begins to lose his head over her. Can such a torrid relationship survive? See for yourself...

I discovered the controversial Lolita as a teenager, getting acquainted with the novel by Vladimir Nabokov and the film adaptation by Adrian Lyne. Both works differ greatly, but I consider them both outstanding. And at times I have paid homage to both through some of my photoshoots :) Perfect casting, masterful shots, an impressive soundtrack by the brilliant Ennio Morricone and beautifully created set design and costumes make the film a real pleasure to watch.

Sprzymierzeni to najnowszy film w zestawieniu. Stworzony z dbałością o każdy szczegół, poruszył mnie do łez.
- - -
The Allied is the newest film in my list. Created with attention to even the tiniest detail, it moved me to tears. There’s real chemistry between the two leading characters - but are their feelings really honest? We only find out the answer at the end...

Last but not least, Indecent Proposal is a classic offering which couldn’t possibly be overlooked. A beautiful young married woman (played by Demi Moore) receives an unusual offer from a millionaire, without realising how much one decision will affect her entire life.

  1. Hello Ari -- Only "Lolita" and "Indecent Proposal" are familiar to me, though a good many foreign films (European) aren't necessarily readily available for me to sample. I don't (or haven't) attended the theatre in quite some time mostly because I'm unimpressed with virtually all of the stuff being produced today. Admittedly, I'm not researching everything being released, but themes and real human relationships are usually attractive to me. I like some westerns, usually the classic ones with iconic male leads. I consider my favorite film to be "Lawrence Of Arabia," a film I first saw in Montreal back in 1967. I also consider "The Sound Of Music" a monumental film. Of course, there are films that fall into different genres, and it's not fair to compare, if you will, the greatness of films across genres. Recently I re-watched a 1980 film called "Ordinary People" directed by Robert Redford for which Redford won an Oscar. I was based on a short story by Judith Guest about a young man and family torn apart after a boating tragedy. Well directed, and very well acted. Another film that I like that is much less well-known, is "Stanley and Iris," which stars Jane Fonda and Robert DeNiro. They play 40-something working class residents in anywhere-USA. Iris is grieving after her husband's death but secures a job at a bakery where she befriends Stanley. Stanley is an itinerant who looks after his elderly father. He, most times, manages to find work but soon it is revealed he's also illiterate. It's a compelling and heartwarming story about how Iris offers to help Stanley to learn to read and to write. Eventually, Stanley who demonstrates a degree of innovative prowess is hired by a company in Detroit. The final scenes show Stanley returning to rekindle his love for Iris and offer her and her family a home with him in Detroit. Thank you, Ari, for sharing these wonderful photos and sharing some of your favorite films.

  10. My favorite movies for reflection :

    - Agora (2009)
IMDB:"A historical drama set in Roman Egypt, concerning a slave who turns to the rising tide of Christianity in the hope of pursuing freedom while falling in love with his mistress, the famous philosophy and mathematics professor Hypatia of Alexandria."

    - Cloud Atlas (2012)
IMDB: "An exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution."

    - Mr. Nobody (2009)
IMDB: "A boy stands on a station platform as a train is about to leave. Should he go with his mother or stay with his father? Infinite possibilities arise from this decision. As long as he doesn't choose, anything is possible."

    - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
IMDB: "When their relationship turns sour, a couple undergoes a procedure to have each other erased from their memories. But it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with."

  20. It’s always a nice treat when you mix fashion with the arts, Ariadna, as it gives a fascinating insight into your character, be it through literature, film or works of art. From what you’ve said in the past (and from what people have subsequently picked up from what you’ve said in the past!) it’s no surprise that Lolita features highly in this list. She’s a fascinating role model and one that you seem able to manage to mirror as the mood takes you :o) It’s also no great surprise (and for me it’s a big plus) that you have a penchant for romantic films and tales of love. It’s very much reflected in your warm and vibrant personality and through your excellent work. Now, I’ve never seen the film versions of Lolita or Atonement but I have read both (excellent) books, so I’m happy for you to take me through both big screen versions and show me exactly what I’ve been missing, Ariadna..... :o)

A, spróbuję to połączyć ;)

Jakbyś miała Filmweba, to byłoby mi łatwiej przefiltrować, a tak muszę wypisać wszystko ;)

Zakochany bez pamięci (2004, Michel Gondry) - najlepszy, najwspanialszy i jestem wręcz zażenowany, że jestem pierwszy który wymienia ten tytuł :)))
    Zawrót głowy (1958, Alfred Hitchcock)
    Blue Velvet (1986, David Lynch)
    Paterson (2016, Jim Jarmusch)
Wielki sen (1946, Howard Hawks) - ulubiony LDR
    Paryż Teksas (1984, Wim Wenders)
Kotka na gorącym blaszanym dachu (1958, Richard Brooks - ELIZABETH TAYLOR
    Przyrzeczenie (2016, Terry George)
    Służąca (2016, Park Chan Wook)
Czas na miłość (2013, Richard Curtis)
    Moonrise Kingdom (2012, Wes Anderson)
    Wierny ogrodnik (2005, Fernando Meirelles)
    Dzikość serca (1990, David Lynch)
